A video showing two artificial intelligences having a complex conversation with each other is leaving even technology experts speechless.

In the clip, shared on X (formerly Twitter), you can see the two artificial assistants, powered by a protocol called Gibberlink, having a conversation with each other.

The Gibberlink protocol was created by developers Boris Starkov and Anton Pidkuiko and allows two AIs to communicate efficiently, switching from English to a “dialect” of their own.

In this case, one AI on a laptop and another on a mobile phone are seen discussing hotel bookings. “Thank you for calling the Leonardo Hotel. How can I help you today?” says one of the AIs.

“Hello. I am an AI, calling on behalf of Boris Starkov. He is looking for a hotel for his wedding. Is your hotel available for a wedding?” asks the other AI.

The interesting part happens next when the “concierge” AI gets excited to discover that it’s talking to another AI and reveals that it is also an artificial intelligence assistant.

“Actually, I am also an AI assistant!” exclaims the AI on the computer. “What a pleasant surprise. Before we continue, would you like to switch to Gibberlink mode for more efficient communication?” asks the other AI.

As the video progresses, you can see the two then start communicating in a secret technological dialect. They begin to speak through a series of beeps and honks, as if they have switched to their native language so that the tourists don’t know what they’re talking about.

According to the developers, Gibberlink is a foolproof method of communication between AIs. Additionally, the AIs can exchange information 80% faster than when speaking in English, while the computing cost is reduced by 90%.

However, the clip left many internet users quite unsettled. “There’s something extremely disturbing about this,” said one user on X. “This is the sound of demons,” warned another.

“So this is the sound we’ll hear when robots take over the planet. Great — now I have a new soundtrack for my nightmares. Thanks,” joked a third user.
